Alien Libation - Hmm Mmm Mmm I love this bar

Iza Waco tends the Alien Libation bar.

Did you ever think you might be served drinks by R2D2 while talking to a Cylon and listening to dance music DJ’d by HAL9000?

I assume not — but you could — if you pay a visit to Alien Libation, a public hangout that floats above Second Life® (SL™)-based Tomici island. This cozy spaceport features an open bar, dance floor, movies, and various spots to hang out and share the latest galactic gossip.

“There is such a rich diversity of alien and mutant species within SL, it seemed a shame to keep them all couped up in various theme-specific sims,” said Iza Waco, Alien Libation owner. “We opened this place to give folks a place to fly in, hang out, learn about each other, and hopefully, hear about exciting places they might not otherwise have learned about.”

What makes this magic possible? The thanks is owed to business partner Tommy Aichi’s Theory of Simultaneous Cognitive Progression. His theory states:

Imagination is bestowed on individuals by a universally connected cosmic collective. As all universes imagined are part of the collective consciousness, all are equally real and valid. This idea is based loosely on Quantum Physics and has been reaffirmed by independent researchers during numerous Happy Hours.

Practically speaking, the theory implies that the Star Trek universe imagined by Gene Roddenberry, the Star Wars universe imagined by George Lucas, and any other so-called “fantasy” universe you care to name are equally real constructs that exist within separate but simultaneous realities. By implication then, there is no reason a Cylon cannot have a drink with a Klingon in a bar on a Leviathan captained by a Wookie. It’s all good.”

“We get all kinds, of course, ” Waco said. “Many come from the Star Wars universe, some from the Star Trek sims … lots of fantasy folks. Vampires, cybernetics and such. My favorite is when we get a large group that come in to plan their roleplay here.”

While Out Out Character (OOC) conversation is permitted, Waco prefers that her patrons remain In Character (IC) as much as possible. “I don’t think most of us care that you’re reheating a burrito in Real Life,” Waco quips. “Tell us how you parked your starfighter outside because of a reactor overload we have something to talk about!”

After rezzing next to a very obvious stargate (the address of which is 15:00:31:23:24:33:02 by the way) you are sure to notice a number of familiar spacecraft docked nearby: an X-wing, Viper, Fury, and so on. Less familiar perhaps are a number of attractive original spacecraft from the developer Hypnoville.

“I love these ships!” Waco confesses. “The builder, Cunningham Capalini, does an amazing job. I actually added a deck just so I could show off more of his creations.”

Flight and aerial combat is permitted above Tomici island, Waco said, although the airspace is somewhat tight. The sim also supports the DCS2 combat system and a healthy variety racial types. “We don’t mind if people want to fly their ships around or maybe spar a little, but we are really more comfortable with cooperative role play, ” she explained. “This is definitely not meant to be a combat sim.”

If you do not have a spacecraft of your own, no worries. The spaceport includes a UFO  rezzing platform that permits you to create your own conveyance with a minimum of fuss.

On my first visit, I decided to try my moves on the dance floor was was startled by the sudden appearance of a big-eyed purple alien who professed to be from “Ceytakia.” My kind of place! I like Alien Libation so much I have decided to make it my in-world headquarters. Look for me there. I want to hear about your adventures!
